Being a soccer referee has been a ton of fun for me over the years, and I’ve been able to see a lot of things because of it. For example, when I was brought to New Jersey to referee a tournament there because they were short on staff, and I was even put up in my own Woodbridge NJ furnished apartment by NJ Short Term Rentals which was amazing!
It is really fascinating just how broad the culture of soccer has become. It brings people together from all over the world in friendly competition and facilitates intercultural communication and helps people to have fun and better understand each other.
Everything that I have come to learn about the sport is a direct result of my own interest in it, because nobody in my family before me had any experience with it whatsoever. I remember the first time that I brought a soccer ball home from school and the look on my parents’ faces when I told them about this new sport that they had never even heard of before.
I played a lot of it growing up, and even joined a couple competitive leagues from communities around my hometown, but it really wasn’t until I left the nest that I discovered just how big and important soccer really is on a global level. Seeing some of the tournaments that cities put on for people of all ages, and of course the World Cup every four years, showed me just how excited people got with the game and how much I wanted to become part of it.
Since my own skills were a little on the average side, I never qualified for any of the advanced leagues, but I loved playing as much as possible, and I would learn the rules inside and out in my off time at home. So I guess it wasn’t too much of a stretch to apply for a referee position when I heard about some availability with a local league.
The rest is history since I got the referee position and my life instantly became all about soccer. I became one of the most respected officials in my area, and that’s why I was asked to work with the tournament in New Jersey.
I was thrilled to go, so obviously the icing on the cake was my Woodbridge NJ furnished apartment from NJ Short Term Rentals that I got to enjoy for the duration of the tournament. I’ve never had the opportunity to stay in something so nice before, so it really made the entire experience magical.
